i was in a favourite vintage store recently when i spotted this beauty, a christening gown embroidered with the names of countless generations of babies that presumably were christened in this special family heirloom. what a treasure!

jm sent me a link to threads of feeling, an online exhibition documenting the tokens left with children given by their mothers to the bloomsbury foundling's hospital in the 18th century. totally gut wrenching.
